Picture Policy:
At the PCR website we’d like to make it as fun & interactive as possible. One way we feel is to have it possible for parents to send pictures of game action that can be posted on the site. But we must really watch how we proceed with this. Many website's dealing with kids & even adults, have tough guidelines on posting pictures. We too would like rules to help protect the best interests of the girls in mind.
Why do we want pictures? Well I mentioned fun & interactivity. Well since each level will have a page & each team as well, there is a great opportunity to spruce up these pages with relevant pictures. Proud coaches & parents can give us shots to spiff things up. We can even use pictures to spruce up more general pages & articles ont he site. Now, we must watch out how many pictures we do put on the site. the more we have on any page, the slower it loads on a computer & the more bandwidth it eats up. Bandwidth is the amount of space we are allowing to have each month on the site. If you go over bandwidth it costs extra money for the site. I will monitor & rotate pictures ont he site to make sure we maintain a good bandwidth flow. So please understand if you do want to submit a picture, we hope to use it, but may not use all we receive!
THE POLICY
First of all anyone clearly in any picture , that is they can easily be identified, should give their permission to have this picture posted. A goalie with their mask on, or the back of a player covering another we believe is a harmless picture & is not someone easily identified. So an example of myself (A manager& dad) allowing a picture of my daughter skating towards the net while you see the back of a trailing defender is acceptable because I have said its okay to use the image of my daughter who is the only identifiable girl on it, the defenders kind of generic. Had it shown her face.. well then we edit it!!
It sounds extreme, but I think in this day & age we must respect privacy & the rights all parent & children have.
What I recommend is that during a game you tell the parents that you be taking shots for the website & it anyone objects to it being posted, well then mention it & then comply with that girl. I’m sure asking your own team parents if its okay to take a shot of the girls on the bench for the site would actually be welcome. I have done this on many occasions, nobody ever objects, in fact it brought awareness to the website's the pictures were for!
Also, I don’t really want to have a girls name posted on the caption without parents authorization. Id prefer to use something like. “Number 22 celebrates after scoring.” Id think that with the girls at the older level they wouldn't mind having names posted, but at this point, lets say it’s the rule that we don't unless given the thumbs up by the parents. Id recommend that any active parent on a team who intends to take lots of shots simply ask the other parents of the team if they don't mind their names posted during the course of the year, a kind of 'blanket authority'.
I also appeal to parents who might see a picture on the site of their kids they don’t want to reach me ASAP to correct this. We are not a professional league. We are a non profit community organization trying to run the best league we can. We won’t ask for people to sign waivers at this stage because we think that might be extreme, but I will never refuse a parent asking for a picture of their child being taken off. Just please remember we are doing our best.
In the end I really hope this was essentially a waste of time to spell out. That we don’t have to pull any pictures. I hope the only problem I have is TOO many pictures & such. The league is a lot of fun & I think the girls would love to see their faces in game action on the site. I hope we get positive & plenty of responses & I will respect any wishes by a parent for their particular child.
Picture Waiver Available:
A picture waiver can now be downloaded & printed now.
If teams intend to post alot of pictures I urge coaches to print some of these out & get them signed, especially if you intend to post a roster with player shots! It is not required, but recommended to avoid possible headaches.
